João Gomes Cravinho
Born in 1964, married, two children. Graduated with MSc at the London School of Economics, holds a PhD from Oxford University.
Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economy, Coimbra University, Professor of International Relations and co-ordinator of the doctoral programme International Politics and Conflict Resolution.
Guest lecturer at ISCTE and Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Mr Cravinho’s doctoral dissertation focused on Mozambique. He is extensively published in Portuguese and foreign journals – United Kingdom, France, Spain.
Besides several articles in specialized journals, his most important publication in the area of International Relations, “Visões do Mundo”, was published in 2002 and written mainly while a Visiting Researcher at Georgetown University, Washington.
In addition to his academic career, Mr Cravinho has devoted several years of his activity to Development Co-operation. In 1999 he co-ordinated the inter-ministerial report of the Portuguese Government concerning assistance to East Timor; in 2000 he worked with the Portuguese presidency of the European Union and from January 2001 to June 2002 he was president of the Institute for Portuguese Co-operation.
Among other activities, he was consultant in national institutions (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian) and international (European Commission, World Bank).
